New Rochelle Thanksgiving Parade - A New FUSE Tradition

As you know, FUSE participated for the first time ever in the New Rochelle Thanksgiving Parade. We have received an outpouring of positive comments from staff and community members alike. Thank you to  all who participated and helped make this such a success. It is our hope that FUSE participation will become a longstanding tradition!

Negotiations Update

The building visits have concluded and been very productive. FUSE has used the information from these meetings, along with the many suggestions sent directly to us, to produce an extensive list of items for consideration by the Negotiations Team.

The newly formed Negotiations Team had its first meeting on November 9. They have also scheduled regular meetings to properly prepare for formal negotiations with the District.

FUSE is grateful to the negotiations committee members for their time and willingness to serve.

Retirement Reminder

Under the current contract, pedagogic staff who intend to retire must submit their letter to the district no later than January 1, 2023 in order to be compensated for unused sick days.

The retirement requirements for Staff Related Professionals remain unchanged.  They can retire at any time, but must provide four (4) months notice in order to be compensated for unused sick days.

Click on this link for additional information that you will need to help you with this process.

Meetings with Human Resources

If you receive an email or letter from Human Resources, requesting a meeting, DO NOT PANIC.

There are many reasons for a meeting to be requested.  It is strongly suggested you contact Mary Claire Breslin at the FUSE office to discuss why a meeting is necessary. The FUSE office number is 914-636-7999.

COVID-19 Updates

Under New York State law, employees are entitled to paid leave to receive COVID-19 vaccinations. Employees are eligible for up to four (4) hours of paid leave per vaccine injection, which includes COVID-19 booster shots. Employers are prohibited from discriminating against employees for receiving COVID vaccinations and cannot require employees to use existing paid time off to cover the absence. However, this law expires on December 31, 2022.

Absences should be entered in AESOP under COVID HALF DAY - VACCINE.

Please note that if you test positive for COVID-19, log your absence in AESOP as SICK BUCKET - SICK - COVID RELATED. In addition, you must email healthtracking@nredlearn.org (formerly trackingnurse@nredlearn.org).

As employees, almost all conditions affecting our professional environment, working conditions, and pension rights are determined by the actions of the New York State Legislature, the Governor, and the U.S. Congress. If we wish to have a positive influence on our professional future, we must take an active part in the political process.  You can make your voice heard, and at the same time, make an investment in your future, by contributing to VOTE-COPE, NYSUT’s political action fund.

The New Rochelle Federation of United School Employees is now conducting its VOTE-COPE drive. Building representatives will reach out to members with contributor cards and be happy to answer questions about VOTE-COPE. You can also learn more about VOTE-COPE here.

Members who already contribute are asked to check their deductions on their pay stubs to determine the amount they already contribute and consider an increase by $.25 - $1.00 per paycheck. You have the right not to contribute without reprisal and will not be favored or disadvantaged because you have exercised this right.

The members of FUSE Leadership have already made their contributions and now encourage you to do the same. Your contribution will show your commitment to a sustained effort for better education. We are looking for 100% participation, and no amount is too small.

A contribution to VOTE-COPE is an investment in yourself and your future. Thank you for your consideration.

Get Active For Public Education

Get Active for Public Education

If last week's election has shown us anything, it's that now — more than ever — we need to recommit ourselves to what we know: Public Schools Unite Us.

As the 2023 Legislative Session gears up, help supercharge our advocacy on behalf of public education by encouraging friends and family to join you as a MAC-tivist.

Share our MAC-tivist signup form on social media with at least three people. It only takes a few clicks to make a big difference!

Over the next several weeks, everyone who has signed up will have the chance to tell us directly which issues you care about and believe are the most pressing for public education.

Activism takes just a few seconds, but the results can be astonishing. The more voices we have, the better our elected officials will hear us!

*If you are not on Facebook, tell your friends and family that taking action on the MAC can happen on almost any web connected device and takes literally seconds.
